T Ananda Krishnan, the Malaysian billionaire who founded Maxis Bhd and Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd, has passed away at 86. His investment firm, Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, confirmed his death today, noting his significant contributions to nation-building, the corporate world, and philanthropy.
Forbes listed him as Malaysia’s third-richest person in April, with a net worth of US$5.1 billion. A Harvard Business School alumnus, Ananda also held a major stake in oil services provider Bumi Armada Bhd.
